Background

Formed in 1993, the Council for Electronic Billing and Payment promotes electronic consumer and business-to-business billing and payment programs and services, providing an open forum for education, resource development, research, and the exchange of information about the electronic billing and payment industry. The Council serves as a voice of the industry.

Council Activities

Council meetings consist of educational sessions, industry updates and work group development time. Some of the Council's current projects include: The Electronic Billing and Information Delivery Service (EBIDS) pilot, the Exception Processing work group, the Tax Payment, and Mutual Fund work group. Accomplishments

  • Published "Walk- in Bill Payment: Guidelines for Billers and Walk-in Payment Providers."
  • Published "Biller's Guide to Using ACH Applications for Consumer and Corporate Receivables."
  • Conducted primary research study, "Benchmarking the Online Bill Payment Industry," examining market size, business practices, consumer service provider-biller interactions, and market perceptions of barriers and prospects for growth.
  • Designed the "Accounts Payable Return-on-Investment Cost Calculator" and supporting documentation on the Benefits of Accounts Payable Integration.
  • Published "Marketing Electronic Billing and Payment to Consumers."
  • Published "Business-to-Business EIPP: Invoice Models and Payment Options."
  • Drafted best practices chapter for EBPP in "Understanding Internet Initiated ACH Debits." Developed industry-wide business practice standards for EBPP.
  • Created www.ebilling.org to educate billing corporations and consumers on EBPP and EIPP.
